“Smile makeover” sounds like a single procedure. It is not. It is a plan that combines two or three treatments in a deliberate order, and the order matters more than any individual step.
Here is how a smile makeover Grand Junction patients come in for actually gets built at our Patterson Road office.
Smile Makeover Step One: What Is Actually Bothering You
This sounds obvious and it is the step most often rushed. People say “I hate my smile” and mean six completely different things: the color, the gap, one crooked tooth, gums showing too much, teeth that have worn short, or simply that they look older in photos than they feel.
We ask you to point at a photo. Then we know whether the answer is a two-week whitening course or a full plan.
Step Two: Health Before Cosmetics
Nothing cosmetic gets built on an unhealthy foundation. Untreated decay, gum inflammation, a cracked molar, an infection needing a root canal, these all get handled first.
There is a practical reason as well as a clinical one. Gum tissue moves when inflammation resolves. If we place veneers against swollen gums, the margins show six months later when the tissue settles. A teeth cleaning and any needed periodontal treatment is genuinely part of the cosmetic plan, not a delay to it.
Step Three: Position, Then Color, Then Shape
This is the sequence that separates a good result from an expensive disappointment.
Position first. If teeth are crowded or rotated, moving them with clear aligners usually reduces how much restorative work is needed afterwards, sometimes dramatically. Straightening a rotated tooth may remove the need to veneer it at all.
Color second. Whitening is done before any ceramic or composite is made, because dental materials do not respond to whitening gel. We match the new work to your final shade. Get this backwards and you are paying to replace new restorations.
Shape last. Now veneers, bonding or crowns go on, matched to teeth that are already in the right position and the right color.
Step Four: See It Before It Is Permanent
You should not be surprised at the reveal. Photographs, shade selection in daylight, a mock-up or temporaries you wear and live with, all of it exists so you can say “the edges are too straight” or “these feel too long” while it is still easy to change.
Speak up at that stage. Adjusting temporaries costs nothing; adjusting bonded porcelain is a different conversation.
What A Smile Makeover Costs
A makeover is priced by its parts, so the range is wide. Whitening plus bonding on two teeth is a modest investment. Aligners plus six veneers is a significant one.
What we can promise is a written plan with the pieces itemized and an honest note about which are needed for health versus which are optional appearance improvements. Many patients phase treatment over a year or two, and there is nothing wrong with that as long as the sequence is respected. We file insurance, offer an in-office dental savings plan, and post current promotions on our special offers page.
Making A Smile Makeover Last
Night guards for grinders, retainers after aligners, regular hygiene visits, and realistic habits about coffee and red wine. A well-planned makeover holds up for years, but only when the maintenance side is taken as seriously as the treatment.
