The most common cosmetic complaint we hear from adults is not color. It is that the lower front teeth have quietly crowded, or that one upper tooth has rotated forward, and it has been getting slowly worse for a decade.

Clear aligners Grand Junction adults ask about are designed for exactly that situation: mild to moderate crowding, spacing and rotation, corrected with a series of removable trays rather than brackets and wires.

Why Teeth Move In Your Thirties and Forties

Teeth are not set in concrete. They drift forward and toward the midline throughout life, driven by ordinary chewing forces and by the jaw continuing to change shape long after growth stops.

If you had braces as a teenager and stopped wearing your retainer at some point, that drift is what you are seeing now. It is not a sign the original treatment failed. It is the retainer stage that lapsed, which is also why retainers after aligner treatment are not optional.

Who Clear Aligners Suit

They work well for crowded lower front teeth, small gaps, mild relapse after childhood braces, and teeth that are rotated but otherwise healthy. Many adults finish in six to eighteen months depending on how far things have moved.

They are not the right answer for every case. Significant bite discrepancies, teeth needing to move a long distance, or jaw-position problems are better handled another way, and we would refer rather than stretch the technique past what it does well. If your goal is purely the appearance of two front teeth, veneers or bonding may reach it faster.

Clear Aligner Wear Time Is The Part People Underestimate

Twenty to twenty-two hours a day. That is the number, and it is the whole ballgame.

Aligners only move teeth while they are in your mouth. Take them out for a long lunch, an afternoon coffee, dinner and an evening drink and you have quietly dropped to fourteen hours, and the tray stops tracking. Then the next tray does not fit, and treatment stretches by months.

Practically, this means you drink water while wearing them and everything else while they are out, and you brush before putting them back in. Most people find the first week awkward and then stop thinking about it.

Comfort and Speech With Clear Aligners

There is pressure for a day or two after each new tray. That is the tooth moving; it means it is working, and ibuprofen handles it. A slight lisp in the first few days is common and almost always gone within a week.

Whitening, Cleanings and Aligners Together

Two things worth knowing. First, custom trays and whitening gel pair naturally, so many patients whiten near the end of aligner treatment once the teeth are in their final positions. Second, aligners hold whatever is on your teeth against your enamel all day, including sugar from a coffee you drank without taking them out. Decay risk goes up if hygiene slips.

Keep your teeth cleaning appointments through treatment, and be more careful than usual about brushing after meals. Straight teeth with new white-spot decay is a bad trade.

Retainers, Not Aligners, Are The Finish Line

Wear the retainer. Nightly at first, then most nights indefinitely. Every adult we treat for crowding relapse is someone who stopped wearing one after braces. Teeth that were moved will try to return, and a retainer is the cheapest dental appliance you will ever own compared to a second round of treatment.
